#GoodNews - Regis edition! Miscellaneous Memoirs of the Mad

Today we have some good news that is a little different. This week we wanted to tell everyone about a very inspirational young woman called Zaynab, Expert by Experience and newly published author, (Did we mention she is only 18!)

Zaynab has written "Miscellaneous Memoirs of the Mad" about her experiences within the CAMHS service, in the book she talks about her journey with complete honesty, she has even included a very useful break down at the start about how the mental health inpatient system works, from General Adolescent Unit, to Low Secure (which is what we are here at Hillview) ending with a brief description on Forensic Units.

Packed full of useful information about how different units work, covering topics such as, leaning about Autism after being diagnosed, how to become comfortable with hospital life and what staff hierarchy is like within the units, all this information as well as being useful for Care Givers is also useful for a young person who is about to transition between or to a certain type of unit for the first time, it gives a look into a world that normally is very hidden and can appear from the outside quite scary.

The rest of the book is filled with an honest insight into what life is really like for young people who spend time in mental health units. Although everyone's experience will be different this could be a great book for Care Givers, reading it gives a good understanding of how the different units work and how your young person might be feeling whilst on a secure mental health unit.

Zaynab is an inspirational woman who has overcome so much to get to this point. As well as writing a book since leaving CAMHS a little over a year ago, she has gone on to gained 7 GCSE's in less than 6 months, and become a mental health ambassador, talking and giving lectures at universities and working with Think4Brum as a Research Lead/Co-Chair, IMH YAG member, NAS Young Ambassador. She has a bright future ahead of her and we can't wait to see what the future holds for Zaynab Jones!

"You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it. The world is a better place with you in it"
